Coffee Lovers Bloghop Fall/Winter 2022 Day 8
I had the idea for today’s card for quite a while but I just couldn’t put my finger on how to execute it. I wanted to make at least one more card and I was running out of time. Luckily for me, I thought of a way to make it happen fairly quickly. I used the Waffle Flower Coffee cup dies and made them a family with the help of Tim Holtz’s accessories stamp set. I wanted it to look like one of those bumper stickers that you see on cars. I find them a bit odd actually. It is like I would drive less carefully if there wasn’t a “baby on board” sticker on the car in front of me. Of course, I love babies but I try to watch out for all of mankind. Just saying.

For some reason images of Owls are often associated with coffee cards. I am asking myself why, and the only answer that I can come up with is the Owl’s tendency to look so wide-eyed and to be awake when most creatures are sleeping is due to overindulgence in coffee. I guess that as a result of this they have become the feathered poster child for coffee consumption. Well, “whoo?” am I to argue with that. Lol.
The patterned paper is Bellamy’s Patterns from Paper Rose as is main Owl image. The sentiment is from Technique Tuesday (You’re Owlsome) and the coffee cup is from Waffle Flower.

Today’s card features a die of a food truck from Frantic Stamper. Food truck eating has become very popular and is in keeping with what seems lo be a trend to more casual living and dining. Anyway, in this card, I envisioned a winter hike in the mountains, but with the convenience of a coffee/hot chocolate truck to keep us warm. The background is from Paper Ros and is From Scene Backgrounds. The body of the food truck is from Bellamy’s Patterns, also from Paper Rose. The sentiment is from the Coffee Shop kit from My Favorite Things.

Today I am featuring a card from a kit that I got from My Favorite Things. I loved this kit instantly and ordered it almost as instantly. Good thing too, as it sold out very quickly. This kit allowed me to combine my loves of coffee, cardmaking, and interior design altogether. The result is this little coffee shop with a sleek industrial design. So much fun to make.

Sometimes making a card is a slow painful process. The end result looks nothing like what was in your mind’s eye or you have one of those oops moments where you drop an open ink pad on your newly finished card. Luckily for me, this card almost made itself. I was looking at a coffee-themed collection of paper that I had forgotten about. The collection had little journal cards with cute sayings written on them. The saying on this card jumped out at me because I remember the days when “iced coffee” just wasn’t a thing. Cold coffee was just something to be discarded or ‘nuked”. That was it. As I was thinking about this, I glanced down at my Christmas stamp box, and what to my wondering eye should appear but a stamp with a reindeer wearing “Joe Cool” glasses from Crackerbox Palace. Put the sentiment and the stamp together with a simple Buffalo Plaid background and I had a simple but cute card. The icing on the cake is that I used my brand new Tim Holtz watercolor pencils to colour the image and I didn’t hate the result. I need some practice to be sure, but I could live with it.

In Calgary, where I live, we love coffee but we also love cowboys. It just makes sense then that I combine two of our favourites on to one cards. I love this paper (Grunge landscapes 1.0) from Paper Rose and when it is combined with the Cowboy Boot sayings 1 from IO Stamps, then you know you have a fun card. The campfire coffee pots are from a very old stamp set from Inky Antics called Coffee Time. I did have to do a bit of stamp surgery to make it work for this card.

I love the convenience of infinity-type dies. They make it possible for me to choose the style/size of card that I want to make without having to worry about whether or not the focal die cut is going to be the right size for the card. At a recent retreat, I was able to pick up a Waffle Flower die set of coffee cups in five different sizes. I was able to make a shaped card using two of the die sizes. I also recently bought the Riley & Company sentiment stamp that I used on this card. I altered the wording of the sentiment by substituting the original word wine for the word coffee. No matter which beverage I choose, the quote is so true and it makes me smile. The clay candy canes are from Trinity Stamps.

It is another measure of how time flies when it is once again time for the Coffee Lovers Bloghop! I look forward to every edition of this wonderful hop, but I did have a bit of an “Oh No!” moment when I couldn’t think of any new stamps/dies/paper/embelli’s that I had put in my stash since the last hop. I had nothing to fear, however, as the first thing I saw when I opened my coffee-themed box was the wonderful paper that I used on this card/gift. The paper came from the Paper Collage in Phoenix. I understand that Paper Collage has changed its operation to offer only its own exclusive paper. Check them out.
The sentiment is from My Favorite Things and is called Sassy Pants Holiday Too. It was perfect as this project is BOTH a card and a gift. The shopping bag contains a gift card and is only attached to the card with velcro circles. The recipient can pull off the shopping bag and pop it in her purse to go shopping. It re-attaches to the card if the recipient wants to display or keep the card.
The gift card die is from Spellbinders. It is the Large Die of the Month from April 2019.
I think it turned out quite well for my first card in the hop. Now I have to dig a little deeper in my stash to come up with something new for day 2.
